Tuesday Bible Study - 19 August 2008
Your flesh is dead so don't allow it to resurrect itself in your life.
  • Once we are saved we must be proud of who we are.
  • If we are proud of who we are we will be careful to maintain our walk.
  • We must never allow our flesh to promote its desires because we are a new creature in Christ Jesus.
  • Once we recognize what Jesus has done and allow Him to work it out we realize that we have freedom from the bondage of the law.
  • But in the midst of this freedom our dependency must be upon the spirit of God that abides within us.
  • There is something about the spirit of Christ that is able to direct our lives and promote the will of the Lord.
  • This is why quoting a few words and confessing Jesus is not enough to be saved.
  • All you have done is spoken with your lips and you have no power yet.
  • Once the sprit becomes a part of you then you must understand that you are supposed to remain free.

Galatians 5:1

  • You have been set free, liberated, and not bound any more.
  • Now you must release yourself to the spirit of Christ and His will.
  • Take a stand and not allow anything to move you away from that which God has placed within you.
  • Once you recognize that the devil has one job (to take away your God given freedom) you must never be ignorant of satan's devices.
  • God has given us freedom from sin and we are no longer bound.
  • Now since we have this freedom it is our responsibility to remain free from sin.
  • The Holy Ghost comes to help us but it will not force us to say no to the devil.
  • It is not within our power but that power which is operating within us.
  • We must allow the Holy Ghost to have total control of our lives.
  • We must remember that our freedom came because we found favor with God.
  • So now we must recognize that whom the son sets free is free indeed.
  • Don't pick back up what God has taken out of your life.
  • Be not entangled with that yoke of bondage again now that Christ has given you freedom.
  • We must remember what our weakness was in our bondage and never allow it to return.
  • If you play with fire you will be burned and even though you have the Holy Ghost it (the old man) is still in you dormant.
  • But once you become weak in the spirit that weakness will display itself and come out again.
  • That thing that kept you in bondage was the weakness in your flesh.
  • In order for it to remain destroyed you must walk in the spirt so that you don't fulfill the lust of the flesh.
  • Your flesh is still trying to get hold of its former lusts.
  • You will yield to the devil whenever you cease to walk in the spirit.
  • No matter what happens you will not be entangled again with this yoke if you walk in the spirit.
  • Sometimes we like to brag about what we don't do any more but allow yourself to get weak and see what happens.
  • The Saints cannot play games with the devil because satan's desire is to grab each one of us again.
  • He desires to sift us as wheat but Jesus prayed that our faith fails not and we can strengthen our brother.
  • This is the only way we can make it and stay saved.
  • Many times even after we are saved we feel like we can take it easy but while we are still on earth we must be mindful.
  • We do not have a glorified body yet so our old fleshly desires still try to control our appetite.
  • No matter how saved we think we are if we don't walk in the spirit we will fall back into our old ways.
  • If you don't fast, read the Word, and pray you are setting yourself up for your flesh to take over.
  • You didn't even know the devil was living until you got saved because you were His running mate.
  • But now that you know what he is trying to do to you it is crucial that you keep the mind of God.
  • Don't play with your eternal soul because it is the only one that you have.
  • All souls belong to God and the soul that sins will die.
  • God will separate Himself from you (allow you to fulfill the desires of your flesh) if you fall back into your deep seeded sins.
  • How can two walk together except they be agreed so why are you running with that old company?
  • Your company does not have to make a stand but you do.

Ephesians 4:17

  • We cannot walk like the unsaved do and you will never be any greater in Christ than the company you keep.
  • If you want to be saved you should have an ear to hear and respond to Godly, spiritual advice for your own edification.
  • We should all desire to go to the next level that we are not in right now.
  • We cannot be carnal minded which is to be worldly minded not operating in the spirit of God.
  • If we want the blessings of God we must understand what it takes to get them.
  • So we must align ourselves with the Word of God.
  • God saved us to come out and separate ourselves and to rely and depend upon Him.

Romans 8:5

  • When you hear what comes out of folks mouth you can tell if they are carnal minded.
  • When they are this way they will be mindful of the things of their flesh.
  • They will do whatever they must to fulfill the desires of their flesh.
  • Sometimes you wonder when these "saved folk" are going to talk about God at all.
  • When carnality regulates your thinking you don't want to hear anything about the Word.
  • Everything that operates within them represents their own selfish desires for their flesh.
  • Whenever we allow the spirit of God to take charge we must surrender many of our thoughts and ideas.
  • These things can no longer be a part of us because we are not our own and bought with a price.
  • We don't have the authority to walk away from the spirit just to please our flesh.
  • Either we are carnal minded or spiritual minded.
  • If we are spiritual God will give us an answer to all things and our tongue is not our power.
  • We are no longer human but a partaker of Christ and have taken on His divine nature.

Romans 8:6

  • To be carnally minded is death because we have separated ourselves from the spirit of God.
  • That old sinful nature is nothing but death.
  • We were dead in our sins (Ephesians 2:1) but are now resurrected above our flesh and now walk according to the spirit.
  • In order to have the more abundant life He gave us we must depend upon Him.
  • We must allow God to be the motivator of our actions if we desire to remain spiritually minded.
  • This means to stay in His Word and walk our daily lives in it.
  • There is healing and deliverance in His Word and we will find ourselves continually relying on Him in all situations.

Romans 8:7

  • If you are carnally minded you are not pleasing God at all.
  • You have left God (when carnally minded) and even if you are still speaking in tongues and feel good from time to time you still are not pleasing to God.
  • You no longer have that kinship of spirit with what God wants from you.
  • You take things out of God's hands when you refuse to take His spiritual advice.
  • Why ask for His advice then go ahead and do your own thing because you think you have a better answer?
  • Once you separate yourself from Him then you loose His favor.
  • The carnal mind cannot be subject to the mind of God because it will not be obedient to the will of God.
  • We have to be responsible unto God and be obedient unto His Word.
  • We need help and cannot help ourselves because we will teach ourselves what we want to do.
  • When we get carnal minded we don't want to hear any preaching from anyone.
  • We say I am just as saved as they are but we don't even know if they are saved.
  • Christ must be our only example of righteousness.
  • For us to know the expectations of God we must leave personalities out and read His Word.
  • The job of the sheep is to strengthen one another but the pastor is to give instruction.
  • If we operate carnally minded we can destroy a lot of people.
  • Even if we operate in the spirit when we get mad we will still know how to conduct ourselves.
  • The Holy Ghost never says shut up before I hit you.
  • You didn't get that from the Word but it was your flesh.
  • When we begin to deal with our own personalities we get defensive and carnally minded.

Romans 8:8

  • Those who are in the flesh, which is to be carnally minded, can never please God.
  • When we are carnally minded we find ourselves tearing down instead of building up.

Romans 8:9

  • But we who are saved cannot react like the carnally minded ones.
  • No matter where we are we must abide within the changes that the spirit of Christ has placed in our lives.
  • If we no longer operate in the spirit of Christ we are none of His.
  • Baptism washes away your sins but does not give you the spirit of God.
  • But we must go beyond that and receive the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.
