Pastor John G. Thompson founded Greater Christ Temple in February 1974. At the age of 87, Greater Christ Temple is the result of the "pioneer" in Pastor Thompson. His pioneering works can be seen throughout Ohio in Delaware, Marion, and Columbus.
Pastor John Thompson is a man of great faith and determination. Greater Christ Temple was birthed after a very serious automobile accident, which resulted in life-threatening injuries. At the time of the accident, Pastor Thompson was pastoring a church that he had renovated which was located in Marion, Ohio. He would travel 100 miles round-trip 3-4 days a week, using his own funds so that the church would not have to struggle. One night after 15 years of pastorship in Marion on his return to Columbus, Ohio where he lived, a suicide driver struck the Thompson automobile head-on! After months of suffering in the hospital with a diagnosis that he would not walk again without surgery, Pastor Thompson decided to start a brand new work in the Columbus, Ohio area which he started on crutches, without the major surgery, and the rest is history. Thus we have our present location that we have occupied for the last 34 years, which we will leave as soon as the New Greater Christ Temple is constructed.
The New Greater Christ Temple will be Pastor John Thompson's 4th. pioneering work. Even at 87 years of age he still possesses a brilliant mind! This church will sit on already purchased property located in the Shepard's Community, where there will be opportunities for growth and community development.
The Church, the Community, and the faithful supporters of the Greater Christ Temple family and Pastor John Thompson are excited and full of expectation as we look into the future and anticipate the furtherance of our role in helping others.
